Growth of 5G connectivity in Chile

Last year the commercial deployment of 5G technology grew tremendously throughout Latin America. In fact, Chile was the first country in the region to have this technology, and is one of the countries with the largest number of 5G network deployments, with 4 networks operated for mobile telephony.

In the latest study conducted by Subtel, it can be clearly seen how the number of daily connections to these fifth generation networks increased. By April 2022, the number of active users was 545,323 and by the end of the year it had increased to 1,586,523. With a population of 19.49 million, we can confirm that 8.14% of Chileans already use a 5G connection on a regular basis. These figures far exceed the numbers obtained for the launch of 4G technology.

Motivations and fears of Chileans about 5G networks

5G networks arrived to simplify our lives, to make our tasks more agile and efficient. At least that's how we see it, and many Chileans who are already using this technology.

See in this chart the main activities for which users are adopting the fifth generation technology:

Fifth-generation connectivity brings with it many advantages but, as with any technological advance, also some risks to be aware of. A survey published in Statista revealed some of the fears or risks that users associate with the use of 5G networks. More than half of the people (55%) confirm that they are worried about having confidential information stolen, such as their bank details or medical history, while a smaller part (14%) talked about the possibility of cyber-attacks.

Conclusion

These data are proof that Chileans want more and better technology. Networks that provide them with speed, security and help them simplify their lives. And that is what we are working on.
